Quechua weaver in the Museo Inka (Inca Museum), Plaza de Armas, Cusco, Peru.

Nearly half a century ago a group of Quechua weavers came together in a cooperative movement to save their traditional Cusqueñan textile traditions. As happens all over the world cheaper dyes and synthetic yarns were being used for their ease and convenience. They wanted to protect and promote the traditional skills and designs to pass these skills down to their children. Now many years later they have successfully achieved not only there original goals but also stimulated a worldwide interest in indigenous peoples traditional clothing.
