UNESCO World Heritage site Machu Picchu abandoned in the 16th century and rediscovered by Agustín Lizárraga in 1902 and claimed later by Hiram Bingham in 1911.
After walking the Inca Trail we entered the Incan citadel via the Sun Gate before dawn. At an elevation of 2430 meters and sitting far above the Urubamba River valley early mornings are nearly always misty.
