Walking along the beach in the afternoon I could see a head carved by nature into the rock. Anapai Bay on the Able Tasman Track. Access is on foot or kayak only. Looking across the deep blue of Tasman Bay to Rangitoto ki te Tonga is a perfect way to spend a late afternoon after hiking all day.
A mimetolithic pattern (my perceived likeness of a human head and shoulders) is a pattern created by rocks that mimics recognisable forms through the process of weathering, erosion on its natural formation.
