The Kate Sheppard Memorial, Christchurch New Zealand.
Until 19 September 1893 no where in the western world had women been legally allowed to participate in politics or vote in political elections. On this day New Zealand was the first nation to officially recognise that right into law. Kate Sheppard led the women's suffrage movement in New Zealand, this memorial commemorates her and many others in the fight for that right. The first elections took place later that year on 28 November and 20 December 1893.
