Whistler Olympic Park (Sea to Sky part 2)

So after our trip up the gondola etc. we had planned to drive through to Lillooet but as we had spent most of the day up there the drive was a no go. On to Google then to look for somewhere to camp for the night. I spotted the Olympic ski jump way out of Whistler near the Garibaldi Mountain Range were offering camping for tents as well as RV’s. High up in the mountains with no one else camping but a few RV’s we pitched our tent next to the full Olympic facilities. Believe it or not we had the entire Olympic facilities to ourselves which included the full use of the Daylodge (think of alpine lodge used by olympians through to high profile guest either participating in or watching the Olympics Vancouver 2010) with its plush sofas and après-ski vibe, TV, WiFi, showers, washing facilities and the entire area was fitted with an electrified fence to keep the grizzly’s out! We made full use of everything until around midnight.

I planned to get up early to watch the sunrise from the top of the ski jump. It’s a good climb up the metal staircase to the top and a hell of a long way down if you were a ski jumper!

Sarah stood at the very top of the jump. This is the ski jumpers view before they get released

Eddie the Eagle was a brave man to have a go at this, can you imagine doing it? (I’m sure it would be fantastic but would you live to remember it)

Anyway back to the sunrise. I got up there in plenty of time to watch the golden glow flow over each peak of the Garibaldi Range laid out in front of me. Such a pleasure. I put my phone down to record the event and got carried away taking pictures. You can see a speeded up version of the sunrise over the mountains below.
