Nanaimo

Jinglepot campground - John (owner) & Dave

We spent a few days relaxing in Nanaimo at Jinglepot Campground, we met John the owner 9 years ago when we were last in Nanaimo and camped here. Such a nice gentleman. The campsite is surrounded with flowers and very well looked after and maintained.

After having a stroll along the ocean front marina and viewing the totem welcome pole for Maffeo Sutton Park we visited Old Country Market – Goats on the Roof. The weather was 28oC so the goats were mainly in the shade, but one solitary individual poked his butt out for a while, just for the tourists!

Just had to try an ice cream. But it was a bit more than I expected.

The following morning we hiked out to Ammonite Falls and the surrounding BC park. As you can see a little low on flow but still a nice pool and hike.

The west coast has a native tree called the Arbutus tree which has a characteristic where the bark of the tree is a bright red and the naked trunk is a deep red with blood red sap.
Its
berries have wicked barbs in autumn but the bark and leaves are used by First Nations people to sooth sore stomach complaints. Always, useful information.
